I've been busy. Almost forgot completely about the Symphony, but found the MP3's buried in one of my music folders... picked it back up again. And lo, there's a sixth track now!
But enough about me. This is another good piece, at the same subdued pace as Spirit Realm... but a decidedly different flavor. It gives less of an impression of floating among the clouds, and more the impression of tiptoe-ing through a creepy old house.
And maybe I'm really late in looking into this, but... Zaph, your website is borderline defunct at the time of this writing. And here I wanted to see what the story was that went with this music... after what, a few years since I reviewed the other five? Considering the time lapse... I think it's safe to say there won't be a #7. Though if a seventh track comes, I'll be sure to jump on it.
You're not forgotten, mate.

Got the spark of originality back, I see. And did quite well with it.
Still watching and waiting for the rest of the symphony... don't forget to flag which one is the final installment.
And please, don't rush yourself!

Come on, Zaph... rushing? Same basic tune as the previous track in the Symphony, even kept the chorus almost the same... you just threw out the piano and flute in favor of a spanish-sounding guitarey kinda thing.
No, I don't know what it is, nor do I presume to be an expert...
But you set a standard for yourself with the first two! Don't rush yourself to keep the reviewers happy, it won't work. Slow down a bit, focus on the quality of your works.
Author's Response:
Hmm. They sound quite different to me, although all the tracks in the symphony use a similar chord progression/basic style to the sound - which is intentional of course. Tracks 3 and 4 are also heavily related in terms of the themes of the story. (see www.zaphire.ca music page for the track stories) I guess you're unhappy that tracks 3 + 4 aren't as fast/techno-y as the rest.
BTW, I'm using this as a creative outlet, and I find it fun to write stuff on a semi-regular basis. =]

As promised, I'm still following along with the Symphony's tracks. This one is more subdued than the previous two, more of a lilting "this is paradise" sort of orchestral with just a touch of spooky in the beginning... which quickly fades away in favor of "You've done well, warrior... now come home".

For the second track in the Symphony of Nothing Gained, it doesn't really seem related.
HOWEVER...
Who gives a damn? Stronger beat, and the little piano notes that are always putting in their two cents' worth... Superior to the first.
If this trend continues, I will be watching your works with GREAT interest.

Beautiful... a work of art rendered in non-visual format.

Nostalgia is not a frame of mind, or a state of being... it's a function of intelligence. The smart people here in the world are those who remember things like the original Mario Brothers (Atari), the classic one for NES, and can respect each other for a memory or two in the same vein.
Excellent redo of an old favorite.
Author's Response:
Yeah, the one for atari was alright.
Exceptionally fun with 2 players.
Thanks for the review.

"I said Consummate V's, Consummate!"
If this were actually on an album, I would buy it... but only if a portion of the profits were donated to Strong Bad for the effort of getting him a more powerful computer.
Author's Response:
If Strong Bad had a good computer, it would ruin the whole joke. :D
Phil says "Shut up".
He still has a Tandy 1000.

Just for contrast, the original source and inspiration lies here:

This version is an excellent cover piece, and ought be submitted to HomeStarRunner.com if it hasn't been already.

"It's not called EverCrack for nothing..."
Someone I know is clear-cut evidence that EverCrack has withdrawal systems comparable to heroin... Finally having severed himself from the online version of the game, he's gone for the tabletop RPG... and he is an incorrigible rules lawyer.
It's dangerous! Don't get hooked! Watch the peer pressure!
